NEWCOMERS

Where to start….
We understand that choosing your first Yoga class can be pretty daunting, with all those fancy names for various styles of Yoga it can be hard to know where to start. So we thought we would give you a little break down with a few examples to help you choose the class best suited to you. Scroll down below our FAQs to find out where to start.

What to wear....
Comfy clothes is key, anything you feel comfortable in and can move around freely in. Leggings, Jogging bottoms and shorts are all a good option. We have a changing room and toilets here at the studio so feel free to change when you arrive.

What time shall I arrive...
We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early for your first class, this gives you an opportunity for you to meet your teacher. We are always here to answer any questions and help you feel supported for your class and your ongoing Yoga journey.

What to bring...
Some people like to bring a water bottle. This is not essential as we have water available at the studio. We recommend coming hydrated and preferably not eating 2 hours before your practice. It is always ideal to practise on a empty stomach.

How to book...
We use the online booking system to make your yoga experience run smooth. Our classes can get busy so we highly recommend booking in advance.

FAQs

“I am completely new to Yoga, I have limited flexibility and I do very little exercise”
Don't worry, Yoga is a great way to gradually get your body moving and help you gain more energy. It is a common misconception that you need to be flexible to do yoga, Yoga is the best thing for your inflexibility.
We recommend Beginners Yoga, Slow flow, Hatha Yoga and Yin yoga for you.
Our Beginners yoga, Slow flow and Hatha yoga classes are at a steady pace, giving you the chance to settle in and learn the postures safely, with a group of people new to yoga just like you.
Yin yoga is a slow paced class, giving you the chance to familiarise yourself with the postures. In Yin we work with fascia and connective tissue, a Yin approach is required, very slow durational approach helping to increase your flexibility gradually whilst working in harmony with your body.

“I used to practise Yoga years ago, I’m out of practise and I'm not sure where to start”
Many of our classes will be suitable for you. Our Yin and Yang, Beginner's yoga, Slow Flow, Restorative yoga and Flow and Restore classes all offer yoga for a range of abilities, we have variations and modifications to suit your current practice and current energy levels. Our Vinyasa and Ashtanga classes are somewhere you may like to progress to after reintroducing your yoga practice.

Still unsure where to start?...
Here at Unity Yoga we also offer one to one yoga classes, if you like to have the chance to ask your teacher questions specific to your practice this can be a great way to progress. Many students highly value a one to one practice, as it not only compliments your group classes but also helps you to tailor your practice for your specific needs. We are all unique, our lifestyle, age, bone structure, fitness levels and our jobs are all factors which effect what we are looking for in our own individual yoga practice. One to ones provide an opportunity to build your confidence and progress at your own pace.

Feel free to email us directly with any questions, queries or specific health concerns at Unityyogasheffield@gmail.com
We are always happy to help you find a class suited to you.

A great way to start yoga can be to sign up for a beginner's specific course, here you will be with the same teacher and same group of students for 5 consecutive weeks. Giving you the chance to gain confidence and build community.
