Join Lydia for a four week course exploring the interwoven relationship between yin yoga and mindfulness meditation. In Yin yoga we practice slow durational holds by applying a mild amount of stress to the connective tissues of the body. One of the aims of Yin yoga is to increase circulation in the joints and improve mobility which makes Yin a great practice to help prepare the physical body for longer periods of seated meditation. Each week we will explore a different theme to cultivate throughout the yin yoga practice as we lead up towards a seated meditation. This course is suitable for beginners and anyone wishing to develop a regular meditation practice.
WEEK ONE:
What is mindfulness meditation & how can it be combined with Yin yoga? | Earth Element | Mindfulness of Body
Here we combine mindfulness with a slow paced yin yoga practice to help build awareness, and attention to the physical body. This week's session will explore the Earth element, a grounding sequence to help restore balance to the Stomach and Spleen meridians. The main focus will be learning exercises to cultivate mindful breathing and body awareness.
WEEK TWO:
The language of the body | Metal Element | Mindfulness of Vedana*
In this class we explore the 'feeling tones' that arise during the stillness of meditation and yin yoga. Using the tool R.A.I.N. developed by Tara Brach, we learn to Recognise. Allow. Investigate and Nurture the 'sensations' or 'feeling tones' that arise amid the stillness. As we slow down we may find the feelings become louder and in this practice we learn to create space as the witness of our experience. This week's session will explore the Metal Element, helping to restore balance to the Lung and Large intestine meridians.
*Vedana- the Vedanta is often referred to as 'feeling tone' or sensation, we begin to recognise the sensations and feelings associated with thoughts, recognising without attachment or judgment.
WEEK THREE:
Non-thinking vs. quieting the mind | Water Element | Mindfulness of Thoughts
In the practice of Mindfulness we learn to develop more space between our thoughts. Mindfulness is not a 'trance like' state nether is it the process of 'non-thinking'. Mindfulness is the practice of quieting the mind so that we can learn to cultivate a wiser relationship to our thoughts. In Mindfulness meditation we develop the skills to strengthen the muscle of the mind and with practice we being to train the mind to stay present and focused. This week's session will explore the Water Element, helping to restore balance to the Kidney and Urinary bladder meridians
WEEK FOUR:
Exploring the equanimous mind | Wood Element | Mindfulness of Dhamma*
Equanimity~ calmness and composure, especially in difficult situation. Here we explore shifting habits of being reactive to developing a clear response. By learning to practice equanimity in stillness, we develop and strengthen the skill to take the practice off the mat and into our day to day life. In this week's session we will explore the Wood Element, helping to restore balance to the Liver and Gall bladder meridians.
*Dhamma - sometimes referred to as 'one's duty, the natural law, or nature itself, the path of truth and harmony.
Feel free to email Lydiaainscough@hotmail.com with any questions regarding the course.

Sunday 10am - 11.30am
May 10th, 17th and 24th
£40 Early bird special before March 15th
Join Elly in this three part mini course to become a fully fledged inversion junkie.
Why handstands?
For many, these postures represent the effervescent joy of youth. Remember flinging yourself upside down as a child? It's so easy to forget that our bodies are made to be playful, but this course will hopefully remind you of that.
It doesn’t matter IF or WHEN you get into the 'full' pose in this course. Think of this as an opportunity to delve into courage, learning and patience; AND your inherent right to feel joyful…even wild...in your body.
In this mini course we'll cover relevant anatomy, foundation setting, common challenges for certain body types and ways to work with them, drills to develop strength and mobility/flexibility, different entry points, building up to handstands at the wall and away from the wall (if the desire takes us there).
Each session will start with a brief chat, then about 45 minutes of movement/body preparation, then play time.
The last hand balancing course I taught I was blown away by the results; not people getting ‘further’ into the posture than ever before (although that’s always exciting), but rather seeing and feeling the emotional empowerment in the room, as people surprised themselves with what they didn’t know they could do.
Come and join me for round two?
This course is limited to 8 pax, suitable for those who have been practicing yoga for 4-6months (feel free to contact Elly if you are unsure).
